The doctor then injects the isolated stem cells directly into the patient. The procedure done today was for a patient who, after a car accident 14 years ago, became a quadriplegic. Dr. Berman is hoping using her stem cells in this way will increase her mobility and rebuild her spinal cord. He is not charging her for the procedures since he is not positive they will work. He hopes they will. The patient says her core strength has improved, along with mobility in her hands.
